Hello! Let’s be trendy and talk about the new Korean trend called Cushion. When I hear something about Korean cosmetics, it’s all about trends. Since the BB creams were the biggest thing 4-5 years ago, followed by the CC creams – now we have some Cushion Foundation trend to follow. You can see this type of product everywhere in Internet and obviously, it’s one of the biggest trends in Korea right now.
What the main difference to a regular liquid foundation, is that this one doesn’t come in a bottle (mostly with pump). Cushions foundations are liquids that are soaked into a cushion or, as this L’Oreal’s one, into a sponge which can be applied with a special applicator, which comes as usual with the foundation. Furthermore I’ve noticed, the cushion foundations from different brands are really compact, as the packaging includes a mirror and applicator as well.
The common ground with the BB and CC creams, is that most of the cushion products offer one product with multiple functions – cushion foundation works as moisturizer, make up, sometimes as serum or sun protective skin care. The main difference is in the packaging and application – using the puff applicator we can tap makeup onto the skin.
The next brand out there, who is making its way from Korea to mainstream American beauty markets with cushion product, is L’Oreal Paris. L’Oréal’s True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation is maybe the first cushion foundation I’ve noticed in the Austrian drugstores, and of course I went curious about it. L’Oreal promises a “fresh luminous finish for every skin tone” with a “buildable, customizable coverage”.
The first thing that I thought, seeing the L’Oréal’s True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation, was – it is too expensive! The product has 15 ml and costs ca 15.00 €. Well… that’s not cheap at al,l but as it simply goes, I just took it and went home.
How to use it:
Step 1: Gently press applicator into foundation cushion.
Step 2: Tap onto skin to deliver the perfect dose of foundation.
Step 3: Build to desired coverage level.
And yes, this type of application worked out for me pretty well!
After I have been using this for a week now, I could summarize my thoughts as follows:
Pros
• It is absolutely easy to apply
• Goes on smoothly
• It is very lightweight but buildable
• It blends well with my skin tone
• The Shade 01 Porcelain suits me perfect
• I like the pigmentation
• The packaging is compact enough to carry
• Perfect for No-Makeup-Makeup look
Cons
• Not long-lasting
• When I use too much product the skin gets greasy
• Can’t use it without powder
• It is too pricey – for only 15 ml the price is 15.00 €
• Poor coverage
• I need touch ups during the day
• I don’t think the applicator is really hygienic
• It won’t work if you want a good coverage
• It is too shiny on photos
• I don’t think it would work with oily skin types
Ingredients
Aqua / Water / Eau, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate / Dicaprate, Methyl Trimethicone, Dimethicone, Titanium Dioxide, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, Glycerin, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Pentylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Trisiloxane, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Magnesium Sulfate, Acrylates / Stearyl Acrylate / Dimethicone Methacrylate Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Lauroyl Lysine, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Stearic Acid, Alumina, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Lecithin, Isopropyl Myristate, Isostearic Acid, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Adenosine, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Disodium EDTA, Phenylethyl Resorcinol, Tocopherol.
So far I think I like this foundation. If you’re feeling comfortable with your skin, and you have dry to normal skin type – this would work for you as well. It has light, natural, beautiful coverage, but I really don’t recommend buying it, if you have an oily skin! It is buildable, BUT too much product looks greasy on the skin. What I appreciate is the colour of it – the fairest shade is just simply fair enough for me and my skin tone.
So if you are curious as me – give it a try!
Have you ever tried a cushion foundation? Excited as always to read your thoughts!
Enjoy the day!
