Let me show you some of my favourite photos we made during our holidays in October. At this time of the year, visiting some of Europe’s seaside could end in rain and cold weather… So we decided to go to a place where we can enjoy the sun and the sea for the last time this year in LanzaroteLanzarote is a Spanish island in the Atlantic and the fourth largest of the Canary Islands. The perfect time to visit the Canary Islands is between August and November, although it is always above 20° during the whole year.

Lanzarote is a volcanic island where the colours black, white and ochre are overwhelming majority. The “Tunnel of Atlantis,” the largest underwater volcanic tunnel in the world, is part of the Lanzarote’s “ Cueva de los Verdes lava“ lava tunnel.

We decided to rent a car for the whole week so that we could visit all the places I had discovered in my travel guide.

Here are some of the stunning places we visited. I would go each time again in order to enjoy this magic place with its wonderful wild … wild … beaches!

Jardin de Cactus (Guatiza) | “Cactus Garden”

In the north of Lanzarote, you can find another favourite place of mine – the “Jardín de Cactus“. Because of its form this Garden reminds of an amphitheatre. It is named to be the last art work of César Manrique. The cactus garden itself is surrounded by fields of cactus fields.

Jardin de Cactus was designed in the early ’70 and it symbolizes the island’s history, where you can find more than 1500 different cactus plants. For somebody, cactus junkie like me, it is a stunning place to visit and take a walk among all those beautiful and unique cactus plants (some of them were completely new for me with their form and size).

In the centre of Jardin de Cactus there is a small „lake” with some plants growing in the water and a small cave in the volcanic rocks as well.

In a small touristic shop I found a small hothouse for growing cactuses and succulents at home – this might be my next DIY Project.

Jameos Del Agua (Punta Mujeres)

Like every visitor of Lanzarote, I was especially curious to see the “Los Jameos del Agua . This miracle Place is located inside the volcanic tunnel and long ago was created by the eruption of La Corona Vulcano. It is named after its internal lake which displays a unique geological formation. It results from filtration through the rock which lies below sea-level.

Jameos Del Agua lake has extraordinarily clear waters where you can find different species, including the famous blind albino crabs (Munidopsis polymorpha). The lack of pigmentation is the reason why all those albino crabs fluorescent in the dark where you can see a lot of small white dots. They are known also as “jameitos” and are the symbol of the Jameos del Agua.

I called this place – my personal small Utopia! …
